Elizabeth (Liz) Quan Shipsides is a highly skilled patent attorney who brings extensive expertise in intellectual property law to Shih IP Law Group, PLLC. With a robust background in chemical engineering and patent law, Liz is dedicated to protecting and managing her clients' intellectual property rights. Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Minnesota State Bar, she approaches her practice with meticulous attention to detail and a deep commitment to client success.
Liz specializes in preparing patent applications, responding to office actions, and providing comprehensive client counseling. Her expertise spans various technology areas, including software, electro-mechanical devices, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, chemical technology, and medical devices.
Throughout her career, Liz has successfully handled over 500 patent matters and collaborated with inventors to identify patentable concepts and technologies. Her work has resulted in the successful filing of more than 30 patent applications, significantly enhancing the protection of her clients' intellectual property.
Liz's previous experience includes roles at several notable law firms and companies, including Carestream Health, Inc. She also served as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, providing her with valuable insights into the patent examination process.
Liz holds a Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She is a member of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA).
Outside of her professional life, Liz enjoys watching her sons play basketball, traveling, hiking, participating in escape rooms, and learning about new technologies.
